MedRx Founder and President Ron Buck Announces Retirement; Caleb Sparkman Named President

Ron Buck, President and Founder of MedRx, Inc., has announced his retirement after 38 years in the hearing healthcare space and 28 years at MedRx. Ron has been responsible for bringing MedRx to the forefront of the audiometric diagnostic equipment space. He has been a driving force in the industry always pushing for new technology and helping any practitioner who asked for advice. 

“To successfully run a business like MedRx, you need to have a sense for where the industry is moving and understand how clinicians work with patients. Ron was exceptional at both due to his years of experience dispensing hearing aids prior to founding MedRx. His industry insights allowed MedRx to build products that clinicians could relate to and use with their patients.” said Caleb Sparkman, Au.D. the incoming President of MedRx. “Over the past 5 years as VP of MedRx, I am thankful to have worked alongside Ron Buck to learn from his perspective of the industry.” 

Ron started his hearing healthcare career as a hearing aid dispenser owning clinics in the Tampa Bay area. He worked in and managed his 6 shops, dispensing products to members of the community. During this time, he completed volunteer work including flying to Mexico to provide free hearing aids to impoverished communities. Ron’s experience working inside of a hearing clinic taught him firsthand exactly what clinicians needed to successfully work with patients. 

Ron founded MedRx in 1994 after seeing a need in the market for an affordable video otoscope. He worked with an engineer for months to design MedRx’s first product the Video Otoscope. The video otoscope, unlike today’s otoscopes, was mounted on a cart with a PC, Monitor and built-in printer. Everything a clinic needed to display great images to the customer and let them go home with a clear image of their eardrum. Soon after the successful launch of the MedRx Video Otoscope, he expanded the product offerings by creating a fully PC based system containing Audiometry, Real Ear Measurement, Test Box Measures and Video Otoscopy. This created the foundation for the fully modernized MedRx equipment used today.

“Ron is planning an active retirement, with regular travel plans and trips on his boat.” said Caleb Sparkman. “He is staying busy with a hefty social agenda from his wife Robin of 38 years. They are also excited for an upcoming trip to Norway to see the Northern Lights. We wish both Ron and Robin Buck a wonderful retirement and thank Ron for his many years at MedRx.”
