Many local Audiology and Hearing Aid offices will accept donated hearing aids as well. However, in order to receive a tax deductible letter for the donation, you must donate to a non-profit entity.
Try to find a Starkey dealer in your area. They can send them to the Starkey Hearing Foundation. They use them for children all over the world that can't afford to buy hearing aids. Starkey will send you a letter of donation you can use for your taxes.
The Auditory-Verbal Center in Atlanta (founded 1977) and The Center for Hearing and Speech in Houston (since 1947) are both well-run 501(c)(3) hearing charities, and they can send you a copy of their 501(c)(3) forms along with your receipt for your tax returns.
If overseas is your destination, The Carel du Toit Centre in Tygerberg, Cape Town, South Africa is also highly reputable; and since hearing aids are only covered for 60dB or greater losses, any hearing aid donations are appreciated.
Check with your local school audiologist to see if the hearing aids you intend to donate would be helpful to a child in need in your community. Local Lions or Sertoma Clubs are excellent at collecting used hearing aids. You can determine the value of the donation by taking the original purchase price and applying a standard depreciation schedule to that purchase from the date of purchase to the present. An accountant can help you with the donation and charitable contribution specifics of your finances and donations. Hear Now - as mentioned in other posts on this topic is an excellent way to donate used instruments when other avenues are not available. Most of all - thank you for thinking of others and the need for hearing help.
Your State Chapter Lion's Club will gladly take your donation and offer you a charitable contribution form for tax purposes. Also, consider asking the specialist you purchased from. A Lot of times they have knowledge of someone who could use them but can't afford. There's no tax write-off for donating them back into the community, but you do get a good feeling for giving! Donate to the Lion's Club in your state.
Another option for hearing aid donation is through the Sertoma organization. They can utilize donated hearing aids to help support those in need in local communities. Here's a link to their hearing aid donation page.
We are a small, non-profit in Palm Beach County. We take all brands of hearing aids and all styles. Behind-the-ear hearing aids that are in good working condition, are provided to low-income people in the community. Anything we cannot use is sent to Starkey to be used overseas. We send a donation receipt for tax purposes. Check our website for more information.
You can donate them to The Hearing Foundation/HEAR NOW Program, 6700 Washington Avenue S, Eden Prairie, MN 55344. Include your name and address and an acknowledgement letter will be sent for tax purposes.
